In this video BD Outdoors Pro Contributor Mike Murciano walks us through how to tie a Bimini Twist and the applications of this fishing knot.
Within any fishery as you start to adopt more techniques and methods, there is more to remember. A good way to integrate all the information is to keep things simple with the ability to use similar applications across a variety of needs. The Bimini Twist is one of those knots that serves a multitude of options and is incredibly simple. Additionally, it has nearly 100% reliability equating to line strength. The knot has a long history and has been used by many generations of fishermen.

The use of the Bimini Twist varies from fishery to fishery, but for us here in the Southern California Bight we utilize it predominantly when targeting larger gamefish. As fluorocarbon and monofilament leaders become thicker and larger in diameter and our braid becomes heavier it becomes more difficult to connect the two. This is where the Bimini Twist comes in to play. It allows the connection of these elements to the braid mainline.

By adding a Bimini Twist as a double line, you make an easy, fast and reliable connection point for all your connections whether that be a wind on leader or simply attaching a ball bearing snap swivel. The best part about the Bimini Twist is how quick and simple it is to tie once you’ve done it a few times.
